ROAD MOTOR RAGING.

FOOLISH PRACTICES. It is gratifying to know that the Auckland Automobile Association is strongly opposed to the record-breaking-motor trips that are being made from time to time, and have gone so far as to protest to the Minister ,of Internal Affairs, and seek his support in putting a stop to this highly dangerous and reprehensible practice. We cannot _ see that any good object can be obtained by madly careering through the country at a highly dangerous speed, simply to advertise certain makes of cars. If this kind of thing is to be tolerated, it means that others will follow suit, and the practice will grow to such an extent that the ever-increasing number of accidents due to speeding will mount even higher. Many of the roads on which these record-breaking "stunts" are made are narrow, sinuous and steep, and not only are high rates of speed dangerous for the driver but for other reasonable and cautious people, who surely are entitled to protection m their use of the roads. We have had far too much of this record-breaking on the public roads, and it is to be hoped that the protest of the A A.A. will have the desired effect of checking this evil practice.
