A ROWDY ELECTION.

RIOTING EXPECTED AT POLLS (Received Tuesday, 7.15 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 21. The amazing Smethwick by-election Giuls Avith the polling to-day. The existence of the Liberal candidate Avas almost forgotten, but he claims that the result will be a surprise. Mr. Pike says that there has been little opportunity of talking constructive politics. Meetings have been destroyed again and again by deliberate Socialist rowdyism. Mr. Mosley#sks for a majority that will shake the kingdom to its foundation. All parties yesterday held numerous meetings, which were very lively. Mr. Baldwin’s Socialist son spoke on behalf of Mr. Mosley. Mr. BaldAvin’s daughter Avill to-day drive Mr. Pike’s mote r-car round the constituency. Mr. Pike’s final meeting was abandoned in disorder: the candidates and others Avere not permitted to speak. The “Daily Telegraph’’ predicts that there will be night scenes in the streets unprecedented in modern times.
