CRISIS IN THE EAST.
JAPAN THE ONLY COUNTRY TO QUELL CHAOS. (By Telegraph^—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 21. Professor MacMillan Brown, who attended the Pan-Pacific Science Congress at Tokio, arrived back by the s.s. Marama to-day. He paid a visit to the scene of turmoil and takes a very pessimistic view of the future of China. He has come to the conclusion that t v, r Bolsheviks have resolved to disintegrate China as they have disintegrated Russia and that the whole movement is antireligious. He sees no hope for China if the slogan “Out with the foreigner’' is carried out. The only nation fit to take this chaos in hand is Japan. The Japanese, however, are rather shrinking from the enormous task of trying to control China. If she should seek to exploit China she would come in conflict with the Bolsheviks, but would undoubtedly win. If that occurred and she exploited China she won. .come a very wealthy nation, able to do anything she desired by way of mastering any part of the world.
