DAIRY WORKERS’ DISPUTE.

EMPLOYEES DECLINE TO MEET EMPLOYEES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., Dec. 17. Assessors representing the employers and employees were to have met before the Conciliation Council this morning to consider a claim made by the Wellington Butter and Cheese Factory Employees Industrial Union for an award to operate in this province, but with the refusal of the dairy companies to appoint assessors the proceedings did not go very far. The assessor for the Union said yesterday that the Arbitration Court went on holiday and the employers refused to meet them, knowing the season would be nearly linished before the proceedings were finalised, but the acting agent for the employers said this would have been the case even if the employers had attended. Commissioner Halley urged the parties to come together before the application went to the Arbitration Court.
