An Opotiki telegram announces the death of Captain J. R. Rushton, a Maori war veteran. Mr C. I. Harkness, vicenpresideat of the N.Z. Dairy-farmers Union, leaves Levin this evening to a-ttend the annual Dominion Conference of the Union to be held at Pukekohe. Mr Harkness will subsequently go on to Auckland for a few days. Messrs F. F. Newman, \V. Higgins (Waikanae) and J. Ryder were the new vice-presidents elected to the Levin Racing Club last night, replacing Dr. McDonald and Messrs E. J. Nash and B. T. Bond, who have left the district. There was keen competition for the twelve vacancies as stewards, but all the old officers were re-elected with the addition of Mr P. H. Harper, who takes the place of Mr J. Ryder, now a vice-president.
