GOVERNMENT AID SOUGHT.

(Per Press Association.) WELLINGON, .Tune 13. The serious position of the fruit industry was discussed at the annua conference of the Dominion Fruitgrowers Federation to-daiy. Hon Mr Nosworthy said he was sorrv for the position of the fruit industry. It had been suggested that a Commission should be set up to g into the matter but he did not to-n-ether favour the suggestion. He fed something was necessary if they were to make a success of the industry. There appeared to he a tremendom uiffevence between the prices on the falrm and the prices at which fruit was retailed He knew the seriousness of the positionjind that it affected many very P disastrously. How they could 'remedy matters was a problem lequ ing deep thought. So far as they were sWe the officers in his Department wmdd give any assistance possible. The president. Mr A. M. Robertson, •said the growers must look to> the Government for guidance. Secern schema were coming forward and iltev believed there were ways out. -’-ov were pleased to note the ha' dening prices in England and Inal ther* was a better market in America than bad been thought. They had to grow better fruit. Mr Hudson. M.P.. impressed on Ministers that they were representing those who. Avere nig against it., Little could he done without Government assistance. The industry was one of the most important to the country.
