CLOSE SWIMMING CONTEST.

PALMERSTON SCHOOL TEAM WINS

The wet weather spoiled the attendance at the School swimming tournament on Wednesday, but nevertheless there were 300 people present to witness the struggle between the champions of the Levin and Central (Palmerston) schools lor supremacy in the water. This finally rested with the visitors by 33 points to 31, a margin &o small, as a, Palmerston teacher generously remarked, that the vanquished could claim to be as good as the victors. The Palmerston team was entertained at tea at the School after the contest, and a very pleasant afternoon brought to a close by the interchange of compliments between Mr de Berry, the Central School headmaster, and Mr Foss, headmaster ot the Levin School. The results ol the contest in points were as follows: — GIRLS.

P.N. Levin. Over 12, 50 yards 5 1 Over 12, 100 yards 4 2 Under 12, 25 yards 1 5 Under 12, 30 yards 2 4 BOYS. Over 12, 50 yards 1 5 Over 12, 100 yards 1 5 Under 12, 2a yards 5 I Under 12, 50 yards 5 1 Neatest header, boys ...... 3 3 Belay races 6 4 Totals 33 31 As will be noticed, the Levin girls under 12 were superior to Palmerston, the Levin boys over 12 were also superior to Palmerston, but the Palmerston girls over 12 were superior to Levin, and the Palmerston boys under )2 were supeiior to Levin. Palmerston diving, as a team, was better than Levin. Phillips, of Levin, however, took first place in this event. In the relay (junior) the advantage gained by the Levin girls was lost by the boys, while in the senior relay, the advantage, which was much greater, gained by the Levin girls was too great to be overcome by the superiority of the sen-

ior boys. The Levin team was as follows: Girls under 12, Joan Tingey, Ruth Hobson, June Hobson, Jean Greggan (reserve;; girls over 12, V. Douglas, A. Plaster, U. Watson, A. Foss (reserve); boys under 12, H. Keedwell, J. Andrew, E. Webb, J. Denton (reserve); buys over 12, F. Phillips, C. Hobson, K. Head, M. Pouawha (reserve).
