A MAD MARRIAGE.
Carmel Myers is the star of “the Mad Marriage,” her latest Universal photoplay, which is to be shown at the People’s Theatre on Saturday. The story affords the popular star an unusual and appealing role, and will give playgoers an intimate glimpse behind the scenes of New York’s romantic Greenwich Village.
.lane, of the story, darns socks ami keeps house for a group of irresponsible artists in Greenwich Village. Among her clients is ferry Paxton, a successful young artist who would be more successful if he would allow himself to be knocked down to the highest bidder on the auction block of matrimony. He marries fane because she does not interfere with his work and because her occasional presence around the house is convenient when he wants a cup of coffee. Also, he reasons, the fact that she was his wife might prevent him from marrying some woman who would perhaps interfere with his work. The arrangement works out with a peculiar dramatic thrill. "THE GIRL FROM OUTSIDE.”
The girl who gives this story its name lands in Alaska an orphan, bei father dying on the trip from Seattle. She is befriended by a band of cranks, five in number, and he A influence over them reforms the entire gang. The manager of a trading company becomes interested in her and finds that the owner of the leading barroom in the town wants to get the girl into his place. He has already trapped the manager in a mine scheme, but the Curly Kid, himself in love with the girl, gives his life ir. a successful effort to clear the path to happiness for June and his rival. "The Girl from Outside” will to screened on Monday evening, and is Rex Beach’s best picture since “The Spoilers.” Gladys Walton will be seen on the same programme in “Pmk Tights,” a Universal comedy drama of outstanding merit.
