A HANDSOME GIFT. (Received This Day, 8.45 a.m.) Sydney, January 31. The Licenses Reduction Board has ordered the closing of 23 hotels in, the Newcastle district. Further reductions will be considered later. The racer Whitephast has been sold to an Indian buyer for 3000 guineas. Adelaide, January 31. The University Council has accepted an offer by Sir Langdon Bony thorn, proprietor of the Advertiser Newspaper. of £40,000 for the erection of a Great Hall in the University.
