Advocating political action at the '• rndes Union Congress, Mr fThomas declared there was a general belief in the early possibility of a Labour Government. When the Labour Party found itself tho guardian of the whole community instead of the trustee of a section, the policy of defying those in power would be the excuse for retaliation against its sponsors. Mr Clynes asserted that the man who would most welcome direct action was Mr Lloyd George. If tfio Congress annonnccd a general strike Mr Lloyd George would give them a general election on conditions which would find their : class rent in twain while all other classes would be united to fight wlrtit would be regarded as an aggressive step.
