During tho past week a. number of public bodies in Pahnerston North have made reference to the departure of two journalists, Messrs H. G. Kerslake and R.. The customary farewell to the men going ijito camp was tendered at the patiioltie picture benefit on Tuodaiy evening. Nine men go in with this month's draft—Messrs. R-. H. Johnson, H'. W. Martin, R. F. McDionuld, R. D. Rolston, E. G. Tong and F. L. Riamsden, Levin; H. B. Honore and P. H. Fellow, Oliau; and G. Dtry Koputaroa. The mayor (Mr Blenkhorn) he could not say very much. The time for flag-wav-ing and patriotic speeches was "past, ft was a dirty job they were going to, and' flill they could do was to wish the boys well and hope that they would return to New Zealand. They were leaving friends and relatives behind them, and if jtliose friends and relatives valued them before they would value them much, more now that thoy were going, and iliey would never be forgotten. Mrs '1 Uenkhoirn tlijen came forward and presented those who were able to be present with Cardigan jackets on behalf of the lady patriotic workers. Wo wish you good luck and a safe 'return. The audience then rose and sang: "For they are jelly good follows," and this was followed by three hearty cheers. Readers are again reminded tlia.t next Tuesday, the ladies of Koputaroa will bo in attendance at tho Ried Cross phop, and it is expected a record I result will be attained. The whole of the proceeds are to be devoted to the County .Fund. Those who have not been invited to contribute to assist this effort, are asked to take this as an invitation; their donations will be gladly received. The ladies will bo in attendance early to receive gifts. The choir of the Church of England, Levin, will give. a recital consisting of anthems ,hymns, solos, orgm. etc. in the Church this evening. A collection will be devoted to the funds oiP tho clioiir. Arrangemenjts arc well in hand for the concert to be given in Mr Fairland's theatre on Monday night. A special feature of tho concert will be the first appearance in Levin of two of Miss Bcere's (Wellington) dancing pupils.
