A largely atended meeting of ladies was held in the Levin district school room yesterday afternoon ior the purpose of discussing and. organising a garden parly to be held at tiie opening of the croquet lawn, which is being set apart for the ladies by the Bowling {Jlub at the Levin bowling green The proceeds of the garden party be devoted in the Belgian Relit-1 b'-und. Mrs (J. J.I, Pyke was elected to the chair. An apology was received for the absence of Viiss l>uff. It was decided to hold the garden party on .A I arch 17th. The price of admission was iixed nt Is with afternoon tea free; children half price. The opening ceremony will bo performed by the Mayoress (Mis B. I?. Gardener) at 2.30 p.m. on the date fixed. The following committees were .-;ct up: Afternoon tea. — Mesdnmes Lodge, R. P. Wallace, S. Hall, K. M. Gorringe, H. Hall, K. 8. Lancaster. W. Reading, J. Ryder, G. P. Brown, J. Mclntyre. E. M. Herrick, F. W. Pink. B. R. Gardener. G. Kingdon. and Miss Ryder. Competitions.—Mesdames W. M. Clark, H. H. Cork, C. S. Keeclwell. Misses Wilson, Cork and Davies. Croquet.—-Mesdaines Kirk, Porteous, and Misses Duff. Gardener and Lancaster. Flowers and sweets.— Mesdames Vincent, Remington. Holdaway, J. Prouse, Bry.son. Lancaster, and Misses Lancaster, Goldsmith. Pink. Edna Clark, Wallace, Hall and Burbnsh. Working committee.—Mesdaines Pyko. Nicholson and Chaplin. The following ladies promised to giv-e prizes lor the. competition.—Mesdames Keedwell, Gorringe, Aclkin, H. Hall, R. Simpson, Nicholdson and D. S. Mackenzie. It was also reported that Dr Davies would give a prize. Mrs Franklin Webb and Misses Maxwell Hrown and McLandress will tell fortunes during the afternoon. Mrs Lodge and Mrs Mclntyre were appointed joint secretaries. The names of 26 ladies joining the new croquet club were handed in. Anyone else wishing to join must send their name to either of the secretaries at once. Anyone having any suggestion to make re the competitions, or who can help in any way is requested to communicate with one of the secretaries or any of the committee. The afternoon tea committee willmeet at 7 p.m. on Saturday in the Council Chambers. The secretaries will be pleased to receive subscriptions from members and intending members on the opening day. A hearty vote of thanke to Mrs 0. H. Pyke terminated the meeting.
