Cycling and Motoring Notes.

From the .Dunlop Rubber Tyro Co., Wellington, for week ending 27th July, 1012. WARRNAMUOOL-MELI3OURNE ROAD RACE. 1912 EVENT MAY BE CANCELLED. Nearly every cyclist in the Commonwealth, and a considerable section of the general public, who annually follow with interest the great Australian road race from Warrnanihool to Melbourne, will regret to hear that there iis a big chance of this popular road contest being abandoned this year. The trouble has arisen over tho light that is geing on between Ihe League of Vistoria Wheelman and the Victorian Inter Chili Cycling Association— supported by the cycle traders—for the control and government of roadracing in Victoria. The Dunlop Rubber Company—the promoters of tho "Warrnainbool"—have now notified the parties concerned that un-lo-ss a conference is immediately held, and some means evolved whereby the "Warrnambiml"' can bo held, without tho promoters having to take party sides, then the Dunlop Company will in tho interests of road racing take the drastic step of cancelling Australia's greatest road race for 1012.

The fight fc.r the control of roadracing in Victoria is one that would have far reaching effects in road racing circles throughout tlio Commonwealth, if the Dunlop Company decided to take a hand in the present Victorian dispute, but rather than stir up interstate trouble in that direction, the Company will take the drastic step mentioned. Tho parties in conflict lmvo until July 2-"ith to (hid some way out of the present difliculty, and in the interests of road racing it is to be sincerely sopod that some amicable settlement will l»o arrived at, otherwise tlio Dunlop Company will announce the cancel lat ion of this year's "Warrnamboor-'— n .step that will give a big fret-back to the sport, right throughout Australasia.

The demand tor first grade motor cycles is now so great in England that several of the makers are asking for premiums up to L'l2 a machine. \'<s\- immediate delivery. The shortage of supplies in England is hound to he reflected in this country, for the demand for high grade motor cycles is going to be very itrisk during the coming season. An enterprising .Melbourne firm has laid down an extensive assembling plant and expects to turn out some hundreds of motor cycles during the seaN:>u. As first class engine parts have been selected, and the machine "ill he built up with a. view to suiting Australian conditions, the venture is one that should prove the foundation of a large, and lucrative industry. At the present time fully 80 per cent, of the bicycles sold in this country are assembled here, and there is no reason why the same should not apply to the motor cycle trade.
