He read a telegram (purporting to come from Townsville.) stating that tho Soamen's Union and fourteen other unions had "gone out." and be proceeded to say that anyone returning to work before a victory was won would be a traitor and be dealt with as a traitor deserved to be. It would be no us? of their going to other States to cape: they would be followed. Employers victimising strikers also would he "dealt- with." Ho advised strikers not to pay rent while the strike was on; they must provide food first. Another speaker —Mr Collings— referred to tho last statement, and declared there was no intention to repudiate payment; rent would be paid after victory, when there would be work for all. Special constables, he went on to say. were being recruited from the public service hy coercion. Tlie tram service was continued until early evening. The manager expects to restore a normal service in a few days' time. Difficulties in regard to food supplies are far less acute. Most- grocers are serving in the usual way. A few pickets have been observed, bub there has been no interference. An attempted extension of the strike to Ipswich was followed by the issue of a Proclamation prohibiting unlawful assemblies in that citv.
