THE TRUTH ABOUT KAPITI.
To the Editor. Sir,—l wish to write and corroborate Mr Field's statements re the valuations of the land on Ivapiti Island. lUie twelve acres referred to, belonging to himself, was a particularly choice locality, with a very nice pieco of flat and undulating land. It had boon the homestead when the whole Island was rented as a sheep run, and is really the only place suitable for building sues; the rest, with the exception of about forty acres of flat at the northern end, is all holders, and including the big lake, is very precipitous. So if Mr FieJd only got £11 per acie. and the natives got £4 per acre, I fail to see how people can spread such a report about that he got an excessive price. But some people will talk, especially at election time; any concocted yarn seems to answer the purpose. Anyhow, as I resided on Kapiti a little over twelve months, without setting foot on the main land, I consider I know a little bit of what lam talking about. In taking the trouble to writ© this it does not neccessarily infer that I am a supporter of Mr Field politically, but be tliat as it may I ailways like to refute lies and slanders Yours, <s''5 '' GEO. RAMSBOTHAM. Lake Farm, Levin.
