PUBLIC BATHS.
To the Editor. Sir,—"Public baths are a luxury, and I doubt very nmcli, if the Hoi , -' ough Council decided to take advantage of the Government su'bsidy and construct them, whether very many of the inhabitants of tho town would avail themselves of tho opportunity of a. good clean bath. Clean roads and footpaths are an absolute, necessity, and if the Council have C2;jO to spwid 1 would suggest that ft put a gang of competent men on. to set them in order; in their present condition they would be a disgrace to the township. Furthermore, for some reason, which I cannot imagine, the gas authorities economise the gas so lar a.s to put out the lights in the city considerably before 10 p.m., and vearv sojournors, whose duties keep them' out after that hour have to flounder through, ankle die op, tho mud and slush Avhic-Ji is almost imavoidable in dayliglit.^^^ Levin. 3rd July, 1911.
