EVENTS IN SHANNON. (Chronicled by our Resident Representative.! Sister Moody-Bell preached her ■farewell sermon at the Methodist Church on Sunday evening. The Sister delivered a very impressive address to a large congregation. Last night she was entertained by the Temperaiiice Lodge at a farewell social, and on Thursd'ay evening the ehiiroll members will say farewell to the Sister at a friendly gathering in the church-. Many regrets are "expressed at parting wit'h the Sister. Her mission has been of great benefit to the community and has done much to put the Methodist Church in its present position.
To-night the ladies of the Literary and Debating Society provide an evening's entertainment. Tlio particulars about Mix; affair are kept in mystery, and there is jn surprise for those of the pale. JKm i 'OOTH a Li .uvOTEMyajsp. On "Wednesday afternoon the employees of Gunning's .Emporiums (Shannon, and Tokomaru) -are to play football against the employers of the Shannon Meat Company. The following are the players and a l'o'w of their qualities:— Shannon. Meat Co.'s Team. P. O'Connor: He is a. willing player, but never gives himself a eliance. •jack Bovis: Fast, lojig jji stride, in wJ]ic.ll) Jie covers eighteen inefbes; is perfectly j-afe lying down. Jiob Armstrong: Stronger in tlio arms than the legs, could carry til ball well, but his legs won't let him. ■Jim .Martin: Better at passing off ino.iL than the leather. K. King: Would be good at carrying if allowed to use a basket. loin Broun : Very strong, and a good kicker, especially when off-side. \V. McKay: The real McKay wnen fie has luck and can secure a' try. Geo. Hook : Very fierce jukl determined, tlie bristles of ili-is moiistaoho have a wonderful elfect on the other side. J. Piosser:.iim is all right on the, wing, but ho is always required elsewhere. E. Batemaii: Goo.l at collaring if the other fellow is Lame. Gunning's Emporium Team. W 11. Gunning: A tough joint, good staying powers and quick at calculation. K. Gunning: Not a patch on the old (-imp, but especially good at playing a waiting game. \\\ Clayton: Too careful of, his boots to make a first-class player. •J. Milligan : a new colt, said to be too fast for his feet. -I. Tilling: Reasons too much upon the position of affairs, prefers, the bubble -reputation out of range of the. ennou's mouth. Jack Roach : Jack might get himself hurt, he is so rash and impetuous in the rush.
