English Mail. —The English Mails via Suez and Marseilles were despatched from Napier iu the ‘ Ahuriri ’ on Monday last.
The next sitting of the General Assembly is not expected to take place until some time in the month of August.
Repoets of the discovery of gold at Raglan, Kennedy's Bay, and other places, are published in the Auckland papers.
Waieoa. —The cutter * Grayling’ sailed for Wairoa on Tuesday night with a full cargo of merchandise and one passenger. The cutter ‘ Mahia’ is also loading, and will probably get away either to-day or tomorrow.
To Meet the Times. —Our readers will notice by advertisements in to-day’s issue that beef and mutton of best quality may now be obtained at extremely low prices from the establishments of Messrs. Hadley and Newbould—for cash.
Woes fob the Unemployed. — The Provincial Government invite tenders—receivable up to noon of Tuesday, May 26 —for metalling 40 qhains of the main road between Louisa Creek and Long Bridge (lately formed) ; and for forming 44 chains of the main road near Havelock.
The Napeeb Abt Union. —A visit to the Medical Hall will he well repaid by a view of the magnificent prizes which are now' on view, and will be distributed amongst the fortunate subscribers iu a few days. The principal prize, “Rotten Row,” is a truly splendid work of art* measuring nearly 5 feet by 3 feet, and containing the portraits of nearly 200 eminent personages, to which a complete key is supplied. “ Mary, Queen of Scots ” is also a triumph of art; and, indeed, the same remark will apply to the entire collection. We sincerely trust that this enterprise will he duly encouraged, and that the list of subscribers will be speedily filled. (See advt.)
