Sir George Clifford won the race on three occasions, with Husbandman, Masterpiece, and Winning Hit, the lastnamed being the sire of Trench Fight, who narrowly missed taking the honours on Monday last. « * * Cuddle’s good showing in the Canterbury Cup in running second to the Derby winner, Wild Chase, has encouraged to her inclusion in the acceptance list for to-morrow’s Metropolitan Handicap, despite having to carry topweight, 9st. 91bs. Last season, after winning the New Zealand Cup under 7.13 and running second to Kinnoul in the Canterbury Cup, she carried 9.4 into second place in the Metropolitan, four lengths behind Silver Ring, with 9.5. J. Fryer has cabled his intention to return home about December 2. The Victorian horseman N. Creighton is to take up occupation with Fryer _at Hawera, and will do the stable riding when weights permit. Creighton can go to scale at 8.5, and is a capable hurdle horseman with several successes both on the flat and over hurdles to his credit. He is to arrive in time to do the stable riding at the forthcoming Feilding meeting. * « *

At the conclusion of the work before breakfast on Tuesday last at Hawera. Mr. H. Cleland’s three-year-old filly Mystic Glow dropped dead after completing almost a lap of steady pace exercise. Mystic Glow, by Lord WardGlow, whom she resembled to a marked degree, and who died shortly after foaling. The filly had been carefully tended, and was not raced last season, en, was the second foal of Bright but was being prepared for the holiday racing, and was in apparently perfect condition.
