A Lull at Madrid

PEOPLE JUBILANT Loyalists Succeed in Holding Up Rebel Advance TURN OF THE TIDE? (By Telegraph—Frees Assn. —Copyright.) (Received 12, 11.30 a.m.) .. LONDON, Nov. 11. A lull in the artillery fire on the central Spanish front seems to presage either a light withdrawal by » the besiegers, who are definitely on the defensive, or preparation for the launching of an attack by the Government.

The people of Madrid are jubilant owing to the recapture of lower Carabanchel by the loyalists and the success of the “victory column” in holding up the insurgent advance and gaining access to aircraft, which is definitely threatening the rebels’ aerial supremacy.

Though it is too early to prophesy a turn of the tide, the Government, owing co substantial reinforcements of men and arms, particularly from Barcelona, nay shortly take the offensive. It is reported that 15,000 well-armed Catalan reinforcements have arrived and more are on the way from Barcelona. It is revealed that 20 were killed and 45 wounded in last night’s air-raid. M.P. GOES TO WAR Will Fight for Caballero LONDON, November 11. Mr I. McGovern, the Clydeside M.P., announced that he is going to Spain on November 16 t'o “attach himself to the Spanish Government forces.”
