PLUNKET SOCIETY

Hastings Branch’s Monthly Meeting REPORT FOR OCTOBER The monthly meeting of the Hastings Plunket Society was held on Tuesday, there being present Mrs. M. Bell (in the chair), Mesdames F. J. Hull, J. B. Pickering, J. Leggat, W. A. Whitlock; H. A. Fannin, C. Stubbs, E. 0. Bates, E. M- Nelson, H. Glazebrook, C. G. R. Wright, A. D. S. Whyte, and A R. Greenwood (hon. secretary). Apologies were received from those unable to attend.

On the motion of Mrs. Bell a vote of sympathy, with Mrs. Maddison on the death of her mother, Mrs. R. Wellwood, was passed all standing. The nurses’ report for October submitted to the meeting read as follows • New cases, town 13, country 7; visitors to the office, 983; letters received 1; letters written 1; country districts visited, Havelock North 5 times, Mangateretere 4, Whakatu Clive Haumoana, Twyford and Pakowhai 3, Pakipaki 2, Shereden and Fernhill once.

Votes of thanks were passed to Messrs. Christie and Shaw for again lending chairs for the Plunket rooms at the Spring Show. It was reported that on the two days of the show the rooms were visited by 465 adults, 222 children and 121 babies, and seven lost children were cared for until their relatives were found. Extended leave was granted to Mrs. M. Bell. Mesdames Stubbs and Whitlock were appointed visiting committee for the month.

The ticket on Miss Keith’s cake wae drawn, the winner being Mrs. 0. Sullivan, Fitzroy Avenue, Hastings, with ticket 156.

The following subscriptions and donations were received with thanks: Mesdames E. Cullen, Nowell Usticke, A Hill, Hickmott, jnr., 'Duckmanton, Robertson, Chapman, Nankervil, Aitch ison, Stead, Hannah, H. H. Norwall, and E. P. Brown.
