BISHOP SEDGWICK
Visited by Dean Brocklehurst “In between my preaching engagements I paid a visit to Bishop Sedgwick and, family, who are living in what must be one of the most charming places in England,” wrote the Very Rev. Dean J. B. Brocklehurst in a letter to friends in Napier which has been published in the “St. John’s Parish News. ’ ’ Bishop Sedgwick, formerly Bishop of Waiapu, was wellknown in Hawke’s Bay and in other, parts of the Dominion as an enthusi- 1 astic servant of the Anglican Church. “When he met me in a light grOy suit I thought, ‘How young you look, and when later I came to look moi closely I came to the conclusion he younger-looking than when he left 1 pier.” added tho dean. ‘‘Mrs Sedgw and Miss Sedgwick both gave me warm. welcome; in fact, the few di I spent under their hospitable rool number as the happiest of . my stay England. I hate staying in" hotels, a this touch of home-life refreshed me. “I got a game or two of golf with tl Bishop, and had the satisfaction— no
n’t smile, my golfing friends —of tting him to drive 140 yards. When a first started round he could not hit iything. Like many of us, he had been tding too many books about it, and ring all kinds of weird dodges recom- , mded by professionals. It’s very unrtunate for them that they will have > leave Newton Farrars, as the place i too damp for them in the winter, 'hey don’t know where they will go, mt the house is up for sale.”
