ARMISTICE DAY

Waipukurau Observance (From Our Own Correspondence) WAIPUKURAU, Nov. 11. An aeroplane flying overhead at tho time of the two-minutes silence this morning shut off its engine and glided in silence as a mark of respect to those who fell in the war. Armistice Day was, observed in Waipukurau. The flag was flown at both the primary and secondary departments of the district school, and at the post office. The schoolchildren assembled outside and Mr E. C. Boyes, the headmaster, gave a short address to the secondary department, and Mr W. Phillips spoke to the primary children, The silence was observed by the staff at the Post Office, and also the telephone exchange and the telegraph transmitting room. Most of the people in the main street remained still, although two motorists apparently forgot and proceeded on their way. The Waipawa Hospital Board, which was holding its monthly meeting, stood in silence round the board table.
