ROOSEVELT’S PLANS
Will Keep His Promises WASHINGTON, Nov. 10. At a Press conference, President Roosevelt reaffirmed his election promises not to propose new taxes at the next session of Congress. He avoided commitments as to Budget balancing, indicating, however, that the Budget in the next fiscal year would not be larger than for the current year. President Roosevelt cautioned journalists “not to go out on the limb” in describing the Administration’s plans. He added that, whatever the changes to be- made in corporate taxes, they would not be retroactive just because the Government needs money.
The Department of Commerce reports that the unemployed are steadily diminishing and were slightly under 9,000,000 at the end of September. At a conference between President Roosevelt and representatives of the State, War and Navy Departments, the President ordered a restriction of exports of American military-type aeroplanes until Government requirements have been fulfilled.
