WOMEN BOWLERS
“ Like Elephants ”
(Own Correspondent—By Air Mail.) GLASGOW, Aug. 20. Players and spectators at the Scottish Bowling Association’s championship meeting at Queen’s Park here yesterday enforced a ban on a programme because of its attack on women bowlers.
An article in it stated that women bowlers were : “Like elephants dancing a minuet—except that you can train elephants. Temporarily dishonest and essentially unsportsmanlike; and pretending to enjoy bowls merely to irritate their husbands.”
The article was brought to the notice of officials, who reported it to the Association Council, and the immediate withdrawal of all copies on the ground was ordered.
, An official said that the programme was a booklet, sold for 2d, issued by a Glasgow printing firm without the authority, approval, or knowledge of the association.
