John Anthony Crawford, aged 47, a canvasser, charged at the Magistrate's Court at Wellington to-day with obtaining money by false pretences, with 48 previous convictions, was sentenced to four months on one charge and a month euch on the other three, the terms to be cumulative. —Press Association. Bill Pluto, Sydney welter-weight, has been engaged by the Gisborne Boxing 'Association for three fights commencing early in October. Black, of Wellington, who spoke on the English-Speaking Union, and Mr. O. N. Gillespie, also of Wellington, who addressed members on ‘‘Now Zealand Culture.”
