21st BIRTHDAY DANCE FOR MISS MARY RICE

A delightful dance, organised by Misses Mary Buchanan, Sheila McLauchlan and Melva Riddell in honour of the coming of age of Miss Mary Rice, daughter of Canon and Mrs E. D. Rice, The Vicarage, was held in St. Mary’s Hall, Waipukurau, on Wednesday evening.

The hall had been made gay with multi-coloured streamers and big bowls of pink peach blossom, placed along the front of the stage and in the corners.

A happy evening was spent by the many bright young people present, dancing to music supplied by Mrs Meta, Waipawa, extras being played by Mr S. Bryce. Many novelty dances were introduced which all added to the gaiety A delicious buffet supper was served, after which Canon Bice, presented hitdaughter with the traditional gold kej which had been made by Miss Maisie Robinson, informing her that it would only open the front door until 12.30, after that she would have to ente>through the back door. The young guest was also the recipient of a handsome piece of crystal ware from those present.

Miss Rice suitably responded, thanking everyone for the beautiful gifts she had received.

Miss Alary Rice loked most attractive in a turquoise blue lace gown fashioned with a high front neckline folds of lace and pale pink satin coming from the shoulders at the back, and tied at the waistline in a long sash with a diamante clasp and a pretty pink shoulder spray.

Miss Alary Buchanan, cherry chiffon velvet finished with gold antique buttons from neck to hem in front and fastening the neck of the split corsage at back.

Miss Sheila McLauchlan, tangerine taffeta gown fashioned with a ruchea hemline and the plaited belt finished with a daimante clasp. Miss Alelva Ridded, slimly-fashioned frock of black velvet, having diamante shoulder strap. Others present included:

Canon and Mrs E. D. Rice. Mr and Mrs G. M. Winlove, the latter wearing a powder blue sued crepe frock, the shoulder cape having a high fur collar.

Miss Betty Bryce, gold lame, the skirt finished with circular frills and the back of bodice fastened with tiny gold buttons. J

Miss Phyllis Clark, graceful model in white suede satin the flared skirt inset with bands of reverse and handmade satin flowers on neck of corsage. Miss Norma Wharmby, pale pink floral organdi having short puffed sleeves, and upstanding frill finishing the neckline.

Miss Maisie Robinson, ink-blue blocked satin with square brilliant clasp on the square cut neck, the sleeves and at back of the waistline and pink spray-. Miss E. Aliddleton, cream, red and blue flowered crepe-de-chene, having elbow length frilled sleeves and a pointsettia spray.

Miss Olive Carter, frock in deep blue lace with folds of blue velvet, coming over the shoulder and tied in a sash at waistline.

Miss Shirley Clay, cream and cherry flowered crepe-de-chene, finished with a swathed sash in cherry taffeta. Miss Joan Hartland, black French velvet, the elbow length sleeves smartly shirred round the arm holes.

Miss Honey Cuthbert, pale blue tafI eta, finished with ruched frills at hem line.

Miss Nola Williams, black georgette checked in crinkled silver worn with a high necked shoulder cape in black tulle

Miss o’Callaghan, pale blue georgette flowered in pink blossoms, having narrow frills on skirt and frilled sleeves. A-liss Gretchen Kennedy, azure blue crepe-de-chene, patterned in pink rosebuds, with a sash coming from the sides and tied at back.

Alias Alary Wall, attractive in a trained gown of pale pink, cherry and black flowered ninon, having shoulder strap of cherry and black handmade flowers and cherry taffeta sash. Alias Freda Hole, ocean blue flowered chilfou, the cowl neck finished with a brilliant dagger. Aliss Joan Matthews, frock in eyclruen suede crepe, the back of corsage having turned baek lapels of silver lame finished with tiny silver buttons. Miss Bobs Harker, pale blue aud silver threaded phantom crepe, the rucked corsage, caught with a diamante clasp. Alias Clara Duncan, in pale pink lace having full puffed sleeves of pale pink georgette.

Miss Alary Fleming, frock in spring green organdi, the skirt frilled from waist to hem, the frills edged with black.

Miss Nola Marshall, dainty frock in silvery georgette flowered in deep cream poppies.

Miss Helen Nicholls, blue floral liberty linen, frills finishing the pointed corsage.

Miss Alasterton, flame velvet, in deep cowl neck lined with gold lame. Aliss Jean Speedy, smart model in black and white plaid taffeta, having a narrow red stripe, the trained skirt finished with waterfall frills.

Aliss Clara Fleming, slimly-fashioned gown in white sand crepe, finished with a plaited silver belt. Aliss Judy Sommerville, block satin striped romaine, smartly fashioned with spray of white roses. Miss V. Blair, floral crepe-de-chene, the corsage smartly finished with white frills.

Aliss Joan Harker, silver grey and black flora) crepe-de-chene, the trained skirt smartly finished with waterfall frills.
