HAWKE’S BAY TENNIS

Annual Report of the Association

SMALL LOSS

“It will be seen that the year’s working resulted in a loss of £l7 14/7, but when it is observed that the cost of running the two Christie Cup matches and the Cochet exhibition match was far greater than the year’s net loss the result cau only be termed highly satisfactory. It is gratifying to note that the balance of cash lying to the association’s credit at the bank is £174 1/5 as compared with £176 16/- last year,” states the annual report of the Hawke’s Bay Lawn Tennis Association. “The number of clubs affiliated to the Hawke’s Bay Lawn Tennis Association is twenty-one, comprising a total of 1,060 members,” continues the report “This compares with a total of twentysix affiliated clubs as at June 30, 1935, the following five clubs having been disqualified during the year owing to failure to comply with the rules of the association: Taradale, Noreewood, Te Pohue, Clive and Porangahau. "The Christie Cup was successfully defended by the association’s representative teams on two occasions during the season under review, Wairarapa being defeated at Napier by 16 matches to eight. “The following players gained representative honours during the year and your executive’s congratulations are extended to them: Mesdames E. 11. Baker. Although the association suffered a loss of £6 6/8 on the promotion of these matches, it was considered as money well spent in view of the great educational value derived from the watching of such renowned players. “In conclusion, your executive wishes all clubs a most successful season and trusts that the approaching 0.. e may be the most successful on record.”
