P.O. SAVINGS BANK

I Seventy-Five Years Old PROGRESS IN BRITAIN British Official Wireless Service. RUGBY, September 17. The Post Office Savings Bank opened 75 years ago to-day and from tho beginning the bank has made uninterrupted progress. When the bank opened in 1861, 300 post offices wore authorised to conduct savings bank business; within three months the number was 1700 and to-day it is 16,500.

There are now some ten million depositors and the amount owned by them exceeds £114,000,000. The average deposit of £4l compares with £3l five years ago, an indication both of the more prosperous condition of the country and the increased popularity of the Savings Bank.
