WELLINGTON, September 16. *'lf the driver heard a crash or a scream he is nothing more than the hit-and-run driver class we are doing our utmost to suppress,” remarked the coroner, Mr E. Gilbertson, at the conclusion of the inquest into the death of Mrs Elizabeth Ann Fargher, aged 67, who died in the Wellington Hospital as the result ot being knocked over by a car driven by Weldon Edgar Francis Jeffries.

Jeffries, in evidence, sSK mat he was driving up Kent Terrace when a second car stopped to give him way at a street intersection, but a third car swung out of this intersection behind the other car, causing him to swerve and strike the deceased and her grand-daughter, who were crossing Kent Terrace. The other car did not stop. At this stage witness fainted, but he was revived and able to continue his evidence. Another witness said that the accident was caused by the third car not giving way.

A formal verdict was returned that the deceased died as a result of injuries she suffered when knocked over by a car.
