BACHELORS’ & SPINSTERS’ BALL AT WAIPAWA

The bull organised by the Bachelors and Spinsters of Waipawa and held in th 0 Municipal Theatre on Tuesday evening was an outstanding success. This was the first occasion on which a Bachelors and Spinters’ Ball had been held in the town, and the cominitte responsible are deserving of praise, particularly the joint secretaries, Miss F. Foot and Mr F. McSweeney, who worked untiringly to bring the function to a successful issue.

The hall presented a coiouri.nl spectacle with its decorations <>t coloured streamers and balloons, the suppei room being similarly decorated and the tables carrying vases of coloured flowers. A dainty supper was provided by “The Dainties.”

From the stage Les. Henry’s orchestra of five instruments furnished firstclass music for the dancing, the duties of M.O. being capably handled by Mr N. MacPherson. Supper extras were played by Mr L. Liddell’s band, and by Miss M. Taylor. A number of novelty numbers were included in the programme, the winners being:—Monte Carlo, Miss Kennedy and Mr Nesbitt; Luck Numbers, Miss V. Pedersen, Miss J. Nilsson, and Messrs J. Fletcher and J. Wren; spot waltz, Miss MacKenzie and Mr Frank Grover; Lucky Partner, Miss J. McQuilkan and Mr J. Strang.

The success which attended the function should encourage the holding of a similar ball in the next year. Among those present were: — Miss Nancy Dwight, wine crepe frock with corsage of white lace, lemon evening coat.

Miss E. Booker, pink floral organdie. Mrs Meta, midnight blue lace frock. Miss Beryl Weston, flame georgette. Miss Joan Booker, - ivory satin.' Miss Rita Limbrick, Nile green satin frock with silver lame trimming. Miss Greta Grover, pale pink taffeta frock.

Miss B. Cable, floral frock in green and pink. Miss Jean McQuilkan, black French velvet frock slashed with silver. Miss Paula Verran, coral pink frock.

Mrs Clayton, green crepe marocain. Miss Smith, lemon organdie frock. Mrs Yates, black frock with silver trimming.

Miss E .MoSwency, black panne velvet, frock, orange coatee.

Miss J. Fissenden, powder blue crepe frock. Miss 0. Fissenden, blue satin frock. Miss Ethel Stowe, scarlet georgette. Miss M. Carson, blue taffeta frock.
