LADY GALWAY
Morning at the Commodity Club H.B. REMINDS OF HOME A pleasant morning was spent by tbe members of the Hastings Women's Community Club when they entertained her Excellency Lady Galway at morning tea.
The stairway leading to the club lounge room was massed with branches of golden mimosa, while in fhe lounge the flowers were very beauUlul. Tall brass vases of Iceland poppies were intermingled with maidenhair tern, and green crystal bowls were artistically arranged with yellow jonquils. A vase of scarlet poinsettias was much admired, and also the small floating bowls of pink blossom, primula malecoides, and blue Irises.
On arrival her Excellency, who was accompanied by Mrs E. J. Herrick, was greeted by the club president, Mrs E. C. Clarkson, and presented with a posy of violets from the garden circle. Mrs Clarkson, on behalf of the members, welcomed Lady Galway, who later spoke charmingly, saying she hoped to pay many more visits to Hawke’s Bay, where the undulating downs and poplar trees reminded her of Home. Representatives of the Women’s Institute, Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Guion, Women’s Christian Temperance Union, Townswomen’s Guild, and the club circle leaders and hostesses were presented to her Excellency, and after tea all those present were introduced, Lady Galway graciously shaking hands with each. The singing of the National Anthem brought a happy reception to a close. Among those present were; Mrs E. 0. Clarkson, Mrs W. G. Stead, Mrs W. Mackenzie, Mrs R. Nairn, Mrs H. Lovell-Smith, Mrs E. V. Simpson, Mrs K. E. Crompton, Mrs W. J. White, Mrs H. Holderness, Mrs McNeill, Mrs F. Twigg, Mrs Walker, Mrs F. K. Faulkner, Mrs J. Wright, Mrs B. Shadbolt, Mrs M. Waterworth, Mrs Aitken, Mrs A. Lockie, Mrs W. MacFarlane, Mrs J. Simson, Mrs H. Gilbertson, Mrs H. I. Simson, Mrs J. Harris, Mrs des Forges, Mrs McKechnie, Mrs A. F- Glenny, Mrs E. Marshall, Mrs F. S. Budd, Mrs E. M. Marshall, Mrs A. J. Foot and Miss M. Foot, Mrs George Davies, Mrs C. Wilkinson, Mrs G. T. Dyer, Mrs E. G. Armstrong, Mias H. Ford, Mrs W. Taylor, Mrs F. R. Hodge, Miss Lankovsky, Mrs W H. Yesterday morning during tho visits made to the various schools in the district, Lady Galway followed up her visit to Woodford House by visiting lona College, where she was received by the principal, Miss C. McNeill, who presented members of the staff and the school prefects. Lady Galway addressed the pupils at some length on the inheritance that was theirs at school and as members of the British race. Before her departure the bead prefect, Frances Watt, presented a beautiful bouquet to Lady Galway, who later inspected the school surroundings and was given a cheery farewell by the pupils lined up along the drive.
