Gas Explosion
TWO MEN KILLED Victims’ Bodies Discovered Among Debris WIVES WITNESS TRAGEDY (By Telegraph—Ureas Assn.—Copyright.) (Received 19, 9.30 a.m.) LONDON, Juno 18. An explosion at the gasometer at Dewsbury killed Samuel and James Gledhill, who were cousins. Both bodies were discovered among the debris. Herbert Hinchliffe and Joseph Rhodes were injured. Rhodes said that he and Samuel Gledhill wore outside the motor house, and James Gledhill was inside. The explosion blew Rhodes some distance. Hinchliffe, stooping to help him, caught the full blast of a shower of slates and stones, but saved his companion's life. Doctors, nurses and the fire brigade were quickly on the spot. Firemen prevented the ignition of an adjacent gasometer, containing 750,000 cubic feet.
The explosion cut off the supply to a portion of Dewsbury and damaged surrounding works. The victims’ wives, who lived opposite the works, saw the explosion,
