ANOTHER RESERVE

Offer to Borough Council Declined PORTION OF CHURCH SITE Considering that it would be suitable for conversion into an ornamental open space, the St. Alatthew's Church authorities wrote suggesting that the council consider the acquisition of the Market street frontage to the block in which St. Alatthew’s Church is situated. The area of approximately one acre is partly vacant, and has no building of importance, or any permanent structure on it. It was decided to thank the church authorities for the suggestion, but to advise them that the council regrets it is impossible to consider this purchase at present, but that Hie matter will not be lost sight of in the event of anything being able to be done in the future. The Alayor (Air G. A. Aladdison) said that the capital cost would run into something like £l5OO, apart from the maintenance charges. He expressed appreciation of what was being done by this church and others to beautify the surroundings, and said that very fine work was being done in this respect.
