POWER CONCESSIONS

Board Allows Discount to Hastings CONSUMERS BENEFIT Further reference to the benefits already gained and likely to be derived as the result of the disposal of the Hastings Borough Council electrical plant and department to the Hawke’s Bay Electric Power Board was made at the meeting ot the council last evening, when the board advised that a special discount of 5 per cent, off all borough accounts for electricity consumed, except for street lighting, would be allowed. “This will mean a reduction of about £l2O a year,” said the Mayor, Mr G. A. Maddison. “1 atn confident that it will be the forerunner of further concessions that we and the ratepayers will receive as the result of the transfer of the department to the board. “The benefitini results from the amended schedule ot charges announced a month ago will probably amount to over £1000,” he said. “11 the council had retained the business we would have had to increase the charges to the consumers and not decrease them, as has now been done by the board.” “The saving announced last month will amount to somewhere in the vicinity of £2000,” said Cr. S. Ashcrott, who is also a member ot the Powei Board.
