Removal of Overhead Cables Further evidence that the Napier tramway system is a thing of the past is the removal in several parts of Napier of the overhead cables. Borough workmen will bo engaged this wees in removing overhead wires between the tram-barn in Thackeray street and Port Ahuriri, on the branch line from Dickens street to the railway station and along the Hastings street section of the system. Wires in Hastings street from the G.P.O. to Brewster street were removed when the business area of the town was being re-built after the earthquake. Nine trams now lie idle in their shed in TLackerav street, together with n quantity of spare material. The gauge. 3ft. Sins., used in Napier is not of n size commonly used in New Zealand, and difficulty has been experienced it disposing of the cars It is now intended to dismentb’ them and thus obtain a market for them as spare parts. An outside centre lias bought the rails and sleepers which were removed from the track ..ear the Post Office, and further sales are expected of the quantity of copper cable which will now bo available from the dismantling of the trolley wire.
