1938 EMPIRE GAMES
Schedule Drawn Up For Sydney WIDE FIELD OF EVENTS SYDNEY, May 6. The full programme and conditions of entry for the Empire Games, to be held at Sydney in February, 1938, were announced to-night. Following is a summary of the events:— Athletics —lndividual events, four competitors per country; team events, one team with twice the number in the team as reserves. Boxing.—Ono competitor per country. Cycling.—One entry per country each event. Swimming.—Individual events, three competitors per country; team events, one team per country. Wrestling.—One competitor per country each event. The athletics, track and field events for men include the 100, 220, 440 and 880 yards; one mile, three miles, six miles, marathon, two miles steeplechase, 120 and 440 yards hurdles; high and long jumps; hop, step and jump, pole vault, throwing the javelin, discus throw, putting .the 161 b shot, throwing the 161 b hammer. Relay races: 440 yards and one mile. Boxing covers flyweight, bantam, welter, middle and light heavyweight contests. Cycling: 1000 yards sprint; ,1000 metres time trial; 10 miles scratch and 100 kilometres road race. There are the customary contests for women runners and athletes; also bowling events, singles, pairs and rink tournaments. The swimming events for men and women cover all the usual distances and all styles of swimming, also diving contests.
