HAWKE’S BAY HUNT

Artillery Disturbs Puss HEAVY GOING (Contributed). Hounds met at the Waipukurau cross roads on Wednesday last to hunt over country that was arranged by Mr. Parsons through the courtesy of the owners. The Hunt moved off at 11.30 to the flats in front of Mr. Parsons’ house, where the hare gave a fast chase over (he road and then circled the flats twice, only to check and finally to be lost in a small plantation. Hounds then drew the swampy lowlying country lower down the rouU, ami in the rushes put up a strong buck hare, which took a good line, though the going was heavy lor followers, over the road to the hilly country, where the Artillery were at gun-practice. Tim sound of gun fire turned the puss back in the direction of Mr. Hickey's fiats which were drawn previously, and in the plantation on Mr. Swainsbury’s boundary where it was lost. The master then decided to take hounds in, as the increasing barrage was disturbing hounds and the huntsman had in the heavy going taken u heavy fall at a difficult fence. Mackay on Stroller, Mr. Rathbone on Aladdin, Mr. Eric Tod on Galatea. Mr. Edric Mackenzie on Blue Boy, Mr. Haymond on Mischief; the Huntsman, Hindrup, with the Sheik and the manager.
