RETIRING POSTMASTER
Mr. L Hill Fare welled Mr L. Hill, chief postmaster at Napier, who is retiring on superannuation, was met yesterday afternoon by the combined Post and Telegraph Department, and given a hearty send-off. Mr Kiely, senior supervisor of the Electric Telegraph Department, acted as chief spokesman, and paid a high tribute to Mr Hill's many sterling qualities, and on behalf of the combined staffs, presented him with two beautifully upholstered easy chairs and a Bolls safety razor outfit, expressing the hope that in his retirement ha would enjoy thut ease and rest which ho had so well earned by his long sen. vice and capable administration. Tin staffs were sorry to lose Mr Hill, but hoped he would be spared for many; years and that he would accept tho gifts as a slight souvenir of the pleasant relations which had always existed between himself and his staff in Napier, and of the high esteem in which be wu held by them. To Mrs Hill the staff tendered their hearty good wishes for a long period of happiness in the future. Miss Morland, on behalf of the lady members of the staffs, cordially endorsed Mr Kiely’s remarks, and from the ladies presented Mrs Hill with a beautiful bouquet of bronze-coloured chrysanthemums, fastened with ormiga ribbon. Mr Hill feelingly responded.
