CRICKET GROUNDS
In:rcassd Area at Cornwall Park General satisfaction with the preparation w'ork in connection with the relaying of the sports area at Cornwall Park was expressed to-day by a number of members of the Hastings Cricket Sub-Association, the prospect of an additional wicket being available being a matter for gmieial approval and pleasure. The levelling of this area, which is about six acres in extent, has been completed, roost of the soil used ior the purpose haing been taken from areas previously built up near the boundaiies. This levelling process has resulted in the increasing of the depth ot good soil over the playing area, and the Superintendent of Reserves, Mr. J. G. C. Mackenzie, has intimated that when the area is completed there should be room for at least one more cricket square. This will be of considerable benefit to cricketers in Hastings and Napier, too. for they will also be playing on the area in the course of the combined Hastings-Napier club championship competition.
With a view to providing additional and more satisfactory water supply to the playing area, the Borough Council, on tho recommendation of tho superintendent, has decided to lay a oneinch mam direct ironi Tomoana road into the sports ground, passing the proposed additional wicket, square and connecting up with the present system.
