Mr 11. L. Smith, district engineer of the Railways Department, who has been visiting Hawke’s Bay, returned to Wellington this morning.
Mr J. F. Montague, of Auckland, has accepted the position of chief adjudicator in elocution at the Sydney (N.S.W.) Eisteddfod, to be held in August.
Mr E. T. Taylor, orchard instructor, of the Agricultural Department, Wellington, who has been in Hastings during the past few weeks in connection with the export of fruit, returned to Wellington this morning.
Messrs R. G. Forster and A. H. Hayes, of Hastings, leave this evening for Auckland to board the Aorangi eu route tor Japan via Honolulu. They expect to be absent about three months.
Air-Marshal Sir Robert Clark-Hall, of Christchurch, has accepted the office of Dominion Rover Commissioner for the New Zealand Boy Scouts, in succession to Dr. F. J. Borrie, who has been appointed Metropolitan Commissioner ior Dunedin.
Mr James E. Williamson, who for the past 14 months has been on the surveying staff of the Napier Harbour Board, left Napier this morning for Wellington where he takes up an aeronautical position in the i’ubho Works Department,
Mr. John Rees Morris, M.A. (Cantab.), has been appointed headmaster of King’s Preparatory School, Auckland. He is now on the staff of Wellingborough College, Northampton, and is duo at Auckland ia September.—Press Assn.
The Hon. J. A. Hanan, M.L.C., Chancellor of the University of New Zealand, will confer the degrees at the annual graduation ceremony of Victoria University College on May 8 in the Wellington Town Hall, according to advice received by the college council last night from the registrar of the university.
Mr Walter Staff, son of Mr and Mrs F. G. Staff, of Napier, has been successful in passing his final examination in marine engineering.
