SUCCESS IN ENGLAND

New Zealand Singer Several times recently Miss Ruth Perry, the former Dunedin contralto, has broadcast in Daventry’s Empire transmission. Miss Perry is a Dunedin girl, whose rise to the limelight locally was the result of the gift of a pure voice and strenuous training under the guidance of one of the city’s most prominent women teachers, and by her broadcasts from 4YA and her frequent appearances on the concert platform she earned some distinction in musical circles.

It is not so very long ago that Miss Perry departed for the Old Country to further her studies, and it is understood she is faring exceptionally well there. As the British Broadcasting Corporation demands an exacting standard from its artists, the broadcast of Miss Perry’s recital is regarded as a. high compliment. During her first week at the Royal Academy of Music Miss Perry carried off a scholarship and is now a pupil of Marcus Thompson. Miss Perry has been chosen for the part of Mistress Page in the performance of Verdi’s “Falstaff,” to be given in June in the Seala Theatre. New Zealand listeners will remember her many broadcasts while she lived in her native country.
