Poll on Glen Eden Loan INTERESTING POSITION (By Telegraph—Association.; AUCKLAND, April 23. There was a remarkable result of the loan poll conducted by the Glen Eden Town Board on a proposal to borrow £3500 for the erection of a town hall for the district. Of the 570 ratepayers on the roll 220 voted —110 for the proposal and 110 against. There were no informal votes, and uo more votes are to come.
The result is a preliminary one, and an official count is to be held. There was some difference of opinion as to what the procedure would be if tho result were still a tie after the official count. It was pointed out by a solicitor, however, that the Local Bodies Loans Act, 1926, provided that in the case oi borough or town districts “a majority of the total valid votes recorded shall suffice to carry the proposal.” A case of equal voting had occurred st Newmarket in 1930, when it was held that as a majority was required the proposal had been lost.
