GOLF CLUB BALL

Dancers Enjoy Well-Arranged Function PICTURESQUE SETTING The wheel of entertaining goes on steadily, and each week brings its round of gaiety. Last evening folk from all parts of the district met in. the Hastings Assembly Hall to enjoy the annual ball of the Hastings Golf Club, a very jolly and well-arranged dance which an energetic committee had spared no effort to make a lougremembered success. The hall was little decorated, but the stage had been perfectly arranged by Mrs Selwyn Averill in a very novel manner. The finished effect presented the corner of a bright and charming garden with green floor-covering to represent the grass. Bright canvas and I wicker chairs and a long swinging seat were placed arhong tall branches of copper beech trees and bright bowls of zinnias, dahlias, chrysanthemums and foliage. Even a bird-bath stood on the grass, and on either side were jardinieres of strawberry tree and spindleberry branches, while along the front were massed dahlias, chrysanthemums, and foliage. Those who did not care to dance found the seats most comfortable and decorations very charming. In the supper-room the long tables were arranged by Mrs J. A. Macfarlane and Mrs J. Landels with alternate tall crystal vases and floating-bowls of dahlias, gerboras, marigolds, and gladioli with white and mauve Michaelmas daisies. Here a delicious savoury supper was set out and was enjoyed by everyone. A gay programme of dance music was played by Les Henry’s orchestra.
