HAWKE’S BAY HUNT
Second Meet of the Season
The second meet of the Hawke’s Bay Hunt was at the Braehead plantation, by permission of Mr R. H. Tod mid Mr A. J. Tawse.
A good field of 30 moved away towards Braehead. The first haro got away from a willow creek and circled the hills overlooking Mr White’s and the racecourse. It turned and camo back through the big plantation. Hounds followed to tho top of the hills overlooking Brookmount, ultimately losing. Coming back from the Tawse country on to Braehead we moved a hare on tha flats. It ran right-handed and straight for the lagoon, and instead of turning and skirting the lagoon, it swam across fifty yards of it. Hounds followed—a good sight. We were taken over to the riverbed adjoining the park and back again on MrSetter’s boundary towards Braehead. This hare was killed on the boundary of Braehead and Mr White’s. Later we ran two more, circling courses with the big lagoon and plantation alongside, making a safe retreat for hares. The wind had changed to north-west and scenting was difficult. A good day ended at 4 p.m.
