NEW TRIAL GRANTED

Mareo’s Appeal to Executive Council NEW EVIDENCE DISCOVERED By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, April 22. A decision to grant a new trial to Eric Mareo was reached at a meeting of the Executive Council to-night. The application made by Mareo’s counsel, Mr H. F. O’Leary, has been granted on the grounds of fresh evidence having been discovered which was not available when the Supreme Court trial was held. It is understood that the most Important evidence for a new trial will come from Australia, where Mareo and his wife lived before their marriage. Witnesses may be brought from Australia, or, alternatively, their evidence taken on commission. It is not likely that there will be any order "or a change of venue for the trial.
