OBITUARY

Mr. J. A. S. McKenzie A Taura nga telegram reports tho death of Mr. James Alexander Sutherland McKenzie, age 80, after 70 years in New Zealand. He was well known in many parts of the Dominion. 11c left Nova Scotia in the ship Breadabanc in 1858 with a party of settlers. He joined the Post and Telegraph Department and erected many main telephone lines in the Dominion. lie retired after 42 years’ service. Mr. McKenzie was presented with the Imperial Service Medal in recognition of long and meritorious service in the New Zealand Postal Department. He was closely associated with acclimatisation affairs. lie was also a member of the school committee and a life member of the Tauranga Bowling Club. One of his sons, Mr. ,T. H. McKenzie, is general secretary of the Post nnd Telegraph Association, ’Wellington.
