The Waipukurau Chess Club applied to rent the Fire Brigade room one evening a week during the winter. It was decided to reply that the room was already leased to the Fire Board, but that the council had no objection to the board sub-letting it if it so desired. A petition was received from six residents in Fleming and Wallace roads, asking that the corner of Fleming and Wallace roads, and the junction of Raymond’s Cutting and Fleming road should be tar-sealed. The Alayor pointed out that by so doing the council would be sealing sections in the middle of metal roads. He suggested that the matter be left till the roads were sealed completely. Councillor Brathwaite said that the sealing would be an economical measure in the long run. Councillor McCarthy suggested that the council set aside a certain sum each year for sealing. It was decided to reply that the matter would be kept in view, together with the need for sealing throughout the borough. Air F. G. Price wrote drawing attention to the need for numbering houses in the streets. With several families of the same name the position was sometimes confusion. Councillor McCarthy suggested that an estimate of the cost of numbering houses and erecting street signs be prepared and placed before the council nt its next meeting. This was agreed to.
