TRIM WITH FURS
Vogue as Old as the Hills The vogue for fur is as old as ths hills—it dates, in fact, to the days when our earliest ancestors clothed themselves in the skins of animals because they had not yet learnt the art of weaving fabrics. To-day, we are not called upon of necessity, to wrap ourselves in sheepskins, foxes’ pelts, or kangaroo skins, but we like to retain the fur touch just the same. We are sensible of the manner in which it adds to the beauty of our other garments. The new fashion note for autumn and winter is definitely “fur and more fur.” This may seem a contradiction, since furs have been worn and admired Horn time immemorial, but this season’s fur is worn in a new way—it is used as trimming for coats and frocks ami suits. Last season we saw a profusion of beautiful fur coats, and we saw huge fur collars and cuffs ou fabric coats, but having touches of fur on practically every autumn and winter garment is something quite different. And the smallest scrap of fur trimming has tbe gift of making a coat or frock look opulent and expensive. Lt brings cut the best in the garment, emphasises its shade, and texture and cut, and, above all, gives it a swaggering, dashing smartness And then there is the question of iur trimming in relation to the newest fashion styles. We have already neard that tile autumn note in this respect will be both military and classics!, i'be two seem diametrically opposed, and therefore the more are they likely to suit everyone. Some types of face and figure will benefit best by the flowing lines of the classical frock or coatothers will find that the more severe military cut suits them better. There is opportunity for all to make their appearance attractive, and to enhance it with fur trimming Indeed, no trimming is more suited to the military type of coat or frock than is fur. We are borrowing rather heavily from Russian styles, Russian tunics, epaulettes, and side-fastening topcoats, and in chilly Russia fur is worn by all in winter. Fur detracts from the severity of the military style, and gives it a new smartness. With smartly dressed women this autumn it will be a case of “fur to the left of them, and fur to the right of them.
