OBITUARY

Mr. Thomas S. Hester The death occurred at Auckland on Tuesday of Mr Thomas Samuel Hester. The late Mr Hester joined the Post and Telegraph Department at Lyttelton in the 60's. Shortly afterwards he was promoted to the Telegraph Department at Napier. After seeing service at Napier, Mr Hester was appointed first stationmaster and postmaster at Kopua, south of Takapau. At that time the railway did not run south of Kopua, but the building of the line was then proceeded with. Kopua at thai time was all bush country, and from the office it was a common thing to shoot down wild pigeons. From Kopua Mr Hester was promoted in turn to Wairoa, Cambridge, Kaiapoi, Mastertou, and finally to High street, Christ church, from whence he retired many years ago. The late Mr Bester, whose widow survives him, was a brother of Mr A. Hester, formerly manager of the Christchurch Press Co.
